The aim of this project proposal is to address the crucial issue of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) in healthcare facilities, with a specific focus on ensuring patient safety. Access to safe water, adequate sanitation, and proper hygiene practices is essential for maintaining a clean and healthy environment in healthcare settings. However, many healthcare facilities, particularly in resource-constrained areas, face challenges in meeting these requirements, thereby compromising patient safety and overall healthcare outcomes. This project intends to implement comprehensive WASH interventions in healthcare facilities to mitigate these risks and ensure the well-being of patients.
The primary objective of this project is to improve patient safety in healthcare facilities through the following key goals:
- Enhance access to safe water: Implement measures to ensure a reliable supply of safe water for drinking, handwashing, cleaning, and sanitation purposes within healthcare facilities.
- Upgrade sanitation facilities: Improve the availability and functionality of sanitary facilities, including toilets, waste management systems, and disposal infrastructure, to prevent the spread of infections and maintain a hygienic environment.
- Promote hand hygiene practices: Develop and implement hand hygiene programs, including awareness campaigns and training sessions, to educate healthcare workers and patients on the importance of handwashing and proper sanitization.
- Strengthen infection prevention and control: Establish and enforce infection prevention and control protocols, including waste management guidelines, disinfection procedures, and regular monitoring and surveillance, to minimize the risk of healthcare-associated infections.
- Build capacity and infrastructure: Provide training and support to healthcare staff, administrators, and facility management personnel to strengthen their knowledge and skills in WASH-related practices.
