Are you a non-government organization and working towards racial Discrimination? Do you want to design a unique project proposal on racial Discrimination? Racism and racial discrimination have a far-reaching impact on an individual, one that resonates throughout the lifespan of the victim. Adults who have experienced racial discrimination in their childhood tend to have poor mental and physical well-being. This project specifically would work towards developing an integrated project to reduce incidents of Racial Discrimination. The project would help in promoting peace and building a world beyond racism and discrimination and has aimed to reduce hate crimes and racial discrimination through a series of awareness campaigns globally.
Purpose/Summary of the proposal
The proposed project would work towards developing an integrated project to reduce incidents of Racial Discrimination Globally. The project would help in promoting peace and building a world beyond racism and discrimination.
Target Area and Beneficiaries/Stakeholders
The project will be implemented in over 500 schools and 100 colleges in major cities around the globe. The primary target of the project will be young students between the age of 13- 17 years (schools) and youth of the age between 18- 24 years of age. Also, communities/localities where there have been high reported cases of discrimination will be included and we will develop a long-term plan to combat racism in these areas (20 such locations).
Total Budget Requested and Duration (Brief information of what will be done during the duration)
The project will be implemented over a period of 24 months. The total budget request for the project is USD——————–/
Project Background: (The reason for why the problem needs attention.)
Inequality violates the equal standing of individuals; equality, for one, is a prerequisite for people to participate in multiple transactions of society from a position of confidence! The fundamental characteristics that people share in common as human beings, make them hold respect for each other’s opinions, thoughts, and belief systems and be grateful for their meager existence. The idea then, of giving preference to one over another based on race, caste, gender, ethnicity, disability, or class becomes non-existent as it simply feels inhuman. The only idea that remains is to help the ones that are less fortunate and give equal opportunity to all considering the fact that everyone has the potential to do great things, provided the required environment and support to grow and flourish within.
Distinguishing between individuals on the basis of color and phenotypic characteristics has been there since times immemorial as humanity is naturally composed of different groups having different origins and racial boundaries hence embodying cultural and social significance! But, the concept of ‘racism’ is of recent origin and came about in the age of European imperialism, the subsequent growth of capitalism, and the Atlantic Slave Trade, the latter being a major factor. It was also a major force behind racial segregation especially in the United States in the 19th and early 20th centuries and South Africa under apartheid.
Racism has significantly impacted the development in modern thought regarding descent and heredity due to negative evaluations of phenotypic differences in skin color, hair color, the color and shape of eyes, and the shape of the skull thereby propagating the belief that the physical appearance makes one superior over another! Discrimination and prejudice has its own share of impact on the emotional and physical vulnerability of the persecuted individual! Fear, insecurity, self-harm, inability to perform at one’s best potential, self-doubt, identity and existential crisis, all these internal demons that originate due to the suppression of voice and emotions from a very young age are detrimental to the mental and physical growth of an individual!

Discrimination lack of opportunity→ poverty→ prejudice→ stereotype→ discrimination results in a never-ending loop of poverty!
Much is being done nationally and internationally to combat the problems caused by racism; the works of the United Nations Decade for Action to Combat Racism and Racial Discrimination and many Anti-racism campaigns have to some extent eradicated certain manifestations of it, but in a globalized technologically dependent world, it would take years for such a social evil to be eliminated!
Racism and racial discrimination have a far-reaching impact on an individual, one that resonates throughout the lifespan of the victim. Adults who have experienced racial discrimination in their childhood tend to have poor mental and physical well-being (ACE Study, 1998). A three-decade-long study by William and Cooper (Reducing Racial Inequities in Health) has helped identify adverse health impacts of systemic racism and how these are different from those that are poverty induced.
In certain societies, racism is deep-rooted, systemic, and pervasive. A 2019 survey on racial discrimination in the USA by Pew Research finds that being Black or Hispanic negatively impacted the ability to do better in life (Pew Research, 2019). People believe that being part of a racial minority increases the chances of being discriminated against by police, in job & promotion, when applying for loans and for medical treatment (Pew Research, 2019).

For adolescent teens, racial and cultural identity coupled with other social identities such as religion, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic status, and ethnicity complicates assimilation in society. This is further compounded by an increasingly digital world where social media has made it easier to express racist or racially insensitive views. Not surprisingly, the cases of intolerance and hate crimes across the globe are on the rise.
How one approaches racism depends on their individual experience, awareness, and mindfulness?
Individuals of the dominant race are at times unconscious of the discrimination meted out to the victim. The individuals must be able to identify these acts and eliminate the habit of harm. Thus to address racism it is important to engage both the victim and the perpetrator.
Proposed Idea (Please state the main idea of the proposal, including the goal towards which it will contribute)
The proposed project would work towards promoting peace and building a world beyond racism and discrimination. Through the project, we aim to reduce hate crimes and racial discrimination through a series of awareness campaigns globally.
Objectives
-
- Objective 1. To develop a better understanding of the issues related to racism in different countries and develop suitable strategies to combat racism.
- Objective 2. Organize global events to celebrate diversity and create awareness amongst the youth through sensitization campaigns.
Activity Plan (Please identify the main activities, and detail their sub-activities)
Conduct a situation analysis report: A situation analysis would help physically measure the number of people and how they are affected through racial discrimination (components such as the level of poverty in particular races in that country, their enrolment ratio in schools and colleges, the job opportunities available to them, their registration of cyber bullying, violence and harassment, etc.) The situation analysis will help us in the following:
-
- Understanding the Community- Our teams will develop community profiles of different locations to develop a better understanding of the community groups living there. This will give us a reality check and will help in defining the starting point of the work.
- Documenting cases– Documenting incidents of racial discrimination over the last 10 years in the given project area/ community will give us proof that the problem of racism exists and also the extent of the problem. This will also indicate the type, the number, and the seriousness of these events.
- Identification of key factors– Through the situation, we shall also be identifying the key factors and the people within each community who are responsible for inciting violence and discrimination.
Developing community-based interventions against racism: Once the situation analysis is complete, we shall be developing a community plan to help the communities in reducing the incidence of violence and racism. Considering, each community will have its own set of factors and uniqueness, we will be developing individual plans for each community to fight racial discrimination. The following steps will be used:
-
- Invite community leaders and representatives of each group
- Understand major problems and issues of each group
- Understand existing policies and ongoing programs for ending racial discrimination
- Assessment of resources
- Consultations with different groups to develop a strategy
- Review of strategy by advocates and other stakeholders
- Initiate dialogue with community members to implement the strategy in a collaborative manner
Media Engagement: To reach out to the masses the best way is to engage with the local TV, radio, and newspapers. Media plays an important role in conveying the messages to the public, we shall be adopting the following strategy to involve the media:
-
- Write emails and letters to the editors about the project and seek their support
- Contacting local media to write on issues related to racism and its impacts
- Sensitizing the media about ethnicity and diversity
- Broadcasting shows that celebrate diversity and culture
- Facilitate meeting with community and media
- Promote hiring of staff from a different racial and ethnic background
Reducing incidents in schools and colleges: Towards making the younger generation aware of the impacts of racial prejudice and making them more sensitive towards people of different races and ethnic groups, we shall also be working with selected educational institutions. The following key activities will be undertaken in the selected schools and colleges:
-
- Formation of the diversity club
- Celebrate and recognize events of varied cultures and ethnic groups
- Organize cultural events
- Conduct a series of awareness activities and panel discussions
- Adoption of anti-racism education
- Support intercultural relationships and promote cross-racial understanding.
- Develop procedures for dealing with racist acts
Organizing global events: Along with working at the community level, we shall also be working on a global awareness campaign. Some of the activities that our global team will undertake include:
-
- Identify champions who have fought against racism and have made a mark in their respective fields.
- Make a documentary on how people can fight and raise their voices against violence and discrimination against them.
- Develop awareness posters and manuals on racism.
- Organize a global event to provide opportunities for children of respective discriminated races to come up with short stories or movies to show the world what they see and experience from their lens.
- Conduct events were the champions who have raised their voice and took up the role of a leader to bring about change in the form of a movement, come and empower others like them.
- Use social media to amplify emotions and run a global social media campaign. It could essentially serve as a two-edged sword to not just eliminate what’s happening on the digital front but also make people aware of the situations in real-time.
Project Timeline and Budget
